A historical site witnessing traditional architectural art in the Qourara region and one of the beautiful archaeological palaces in Timimoun, located about 20 km from the city, known for its scenic, oasis-like atmosphere, attracting both local and international tourists for its peace and tranquility.
The old palace "Egzar" in the commune of El Oued Saeed, in the Timimounn region of Tlemcen (Adrar province) is one of the most prominent landmarks of tangible heritage still bearing witness to the traditional urban pattern characteristic of this area.
The Igzer Palace, located 12 kilometers from Timimoun's regional capital, derives its cultural and historical character from its exceptional position overlooking the Timimoun wetlands and the palm groves, which formed the livelihood of the local population engaged in traditional agriculture as a major economic activity in their daily lives.
The architectural design used to construct this ancient landmark, built for centuries using local materials well-suited to the region's climatic and geographical conditions in the Qourara area, represents one of its most distinctive features as a unique architectural art form. The original inhabitants constructed it on a rocky plateau situated between the settlement and the wadis, a precautionary measure that allowed residents to monitor various movements and surrounding threats due to the unstable social conditions prevalent during that period, as clarified by a member of the Ighzar Society for the Preservation of Tourist and Historical Sites in the village of El Oud Saeed.
