During a working visit to the #Adrar region on Monday, June 8, 2026, Minister of Tourism and Traditional Crafts Ms. Houria Meddahi, accompanied by Minister of Industry Mr. Yahia Beshir and the Regional Governor, in the presence of local authorities and security forces, as well as Mr. President and General Director of the GHTT (Hotels, Tourism, and Mineral Baths), and several members of Parliament from both chambers and sector representatives, officially inaugurated the tourist foggara complex and put it into service, in line with high-level government directives aimed at #AppreciationOfReclaimedProperties and transforming them into productive wealth-generating projects and employment opportunities.
This visit, which also included the launch of two other important industrial projects, falls within government efforts aimed at reviving suspended projects and integrating them into the national economic cycle, thereby contributing to local development and promoting productive investment.
The Foggara tourism complex is one of the most prominent new tourism projects in Adrar Province, one of Algeria's key national destinations in the field of #SaharanTourism, thanks to its unique natural, cultural, and traditional assets.
The complex includes a five-star (05) hotel with a capacity of 150 beds across 64 rooms, 10 suites and a presidential suite, offering premium accommodation services that meet the standards of high-end hospitality.
It also includes a tourist village consisting of 40 villas with a total capacity of 160 beds, allowing for the accommodation of families and tourist groups under comfortable conditions that combine privacy with high-quality services.
The total capacity of the complex is 310 rooms, equipped with a range of modern facilities and services, including a conference and meeting hall, a restaurant with a seating capacity of approximately 180 meals, a café, reception areas and lounges, a spa and fitness center, as well as outdoor spaces for relaxation and leisure, administrative and utility facilities, and a car parking garage.
During this stage, a detailed presentation was given regarding the condition of the vessel upon its receipt as part of the reclaimed assets, including the rehabilitation, preparation, and modernization operations it underwent, enabling its transformation from a stalled project into a fully integrated tourism facility meeting contemporary investment tourism requirements and supporting the region's accommodation and reception capacities.
The launch of this facility takes place within the context of efforts by the tourism and handicrafts sector to revive restored tourism projects, as the Hotel, Tourism, and Metal Bath Complex has, to date, benefited from ten national-level hotels among the restored properties, four of which are located in Adrar region.
Alongside the tourist foggara complex which began operations today, Adrar region benefits from three additional hotel projects currently in advanced stages of completion and renovation, expected to be handed over before the end of 2026, which will allow the region's tourism accommodation capacity to exceed 2,000 beds, further solidifying its position as a leading destination in the field of #SaharanTourism.
On the economic and social front, the launch of the foggara tourism complex into operation will create 90 direct job opportunities, with the beginning of local workforce recruitment carried out in coordination with the National Employment Agency, thereby establishing the tourism sector's role as one of the key contributors to job creation and local development momentum.
In this regard, Madam Minister issued instructions emphasizing the need to continue highlighting and utilizing national products in furnishing and equipping various hotel spaces to the highest quality standards, thereby reflecting the capabilities of Algerian institutions and contributing to promoting local production and advancing the national industry.
We also expressed our gratitude and appreciation to the traditional artisans present throughout the region, recognizing their contributions in highlighting the cultural and heritage identity of the area and in preserving authentic traditional crafts that reflect the unique characteristics of Adrar Province and its rich cultural heritage.
In a proactive solidarity initiative directed towards children in the region, Madam Minister announced that the GHTT (Hotels, Tourism, and Mineral Baths Complex) will organize a tourism stay for 200 children from Adrar Region, the Coastal Regions, to be distributed across four waves, starting from June 25, 2026, coinciding with the celebration of #NationalTourismDay, offering them the opportunity to discover the diverse tourism attractions our country offers and to promote tourism culture among the youth.
At the end of the visit, Madam Minister delivered a press statement in which she affirmed that the resumption of the tourist foggara fleet represents a successful model for implementing the state's policy of valuing recovered assets and transforming them into value-added projects and employment opportunities, highlighting the efforts made by all sectors and stakeholders to achieve this project's success and put it into operation.
As I highlighted the quality level of the facilities and services provided by the complex, relying on national expertise and local products in its preparation and furnishing, I emphasized that Adrar region possesses promising tourism potential, positioning it among the leading national destinations in the field of #SaharanTourism, especially with the upcoming entry into service of new hotel projects in the near future.
The opening of the Foggara tourism complex marks a new step in the journey of developing #NationalTourism and concretely implements the state's policy aimed at highlighting recovered assets, diversifying the national economy, and supporting sustainable development in southern regions.
