In the framework of preparations underway for #Summer2026, and in the context of the public authorities' commitment to ensuring optimal #WelcomeServiceAndSecurity conditions for tourists, visitors, and members of #TheNationalCommunityAbroad, enabling them to enjoy their holidays in Algeria under the most comfortable, peaceful, and safe conditions, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Ms Houria Meddahi, at her ministry office, chaired a coordination meeting bringing together the tourism and handicrafts directors from the coastal governorates, alongside the directors of traditional industry and craft chambers, through the use of #VisualDiscourse, with the participation of several central-level officials and representatives from institutions under their supervision. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of preparations for the season's launch and evaluating the various measures taken to ensure its success.

It also emphasized that the sector's vision goes beyond seasonal aspects, focusing on developing tourism and handicrafts as economic drivers that generate wealth and contribute to the diversification of the national economy, creating employment opportunities and promoting local development, through enhancing tourist destination attractiveness, improving service quality, expanding the range of tourist offerings, and encouraging investment.
#CoastalStatesOffers and evaluation of preparation levels
The meeting was dedicated to listening to detailed presentations delivered by the tourism and handicrafts directors of the coastal governorates, covering the current and completed preparations underway at their respective governorates under direct supervision by the governors and in coordination with all relevant sectors and institutions.
These offers have allowed assessing the progress of various operations related to #BeachPreparation, tourism space readiness, environmental and hygiene improvement, monitoring of #TourismInvestment projects, preparing tourism and cultural activation programs, as well as enhancing reception conditions and services provided to visitors.
Beach Readiness and Readiness Indicators
Regarding beach preparation, as of May 31, 2026, 470 beaches authorized for swimming have been registered, distributed across 124 coastal municipalities, reflecting the extent of progress in field preparations underway across the coastal regions.
328 beaches were recorded under the #TourismDevelopmentPlan, with an additional 63 plans still underway, expected to be completed before the official launch of the season.
In this context, Madam Minister emphasized the urgency of accelerating the completion of these plans, considering them an essential regulatory tool to ensure organized and modern utilization of the beaches, together with strict adherence to the provisions of the new law governing beach tourism exploitation, and guaranteeing #FreeEntry to them, enabling families to benefit from them under the best conditions.
#TourismInvestment and enhancing hospitality capacity
Regarding tourism investment, Madam Minister emphasized the importance of continuing to assist investors and economic stakeholders in completing ongoing tourism projects and putting them into operation within the specified timelines.
In this context, 39 new hotel establishments are expected to enter service before the current summer holiday season. So far, 09 new hotel projects have entered service, offering a total capacity of 890 beds.
As well, seven additional projects are expected to be launched during June, contributing to the national boost of #EnergyOfHosting, enhancing the sector's competitiveness, and improving hotel offerings, with the number of hotel institutions rising to 875 establishments across various types.
#Digitization and #TourismPromotion
In the field of digitization, Madam Minister emphasized the importance of promoting the use of digital solutions across all tourism services, especially in electronic booking and digital payment, as well as in the management of accommodation institutions, thereby contributing to improved services and facilitating citizens' access to various tourism offers.
It also called for intensifying the promotion of #AlgerianTouristDestination through all digital and media platforms, and preparing professional promotional content highlighting national tourism assets.
Tourism_Revitalization and Traditional_Industry
Regarding tourism stimulation, Madam Minister emphasized the importance of adding a cultural, recreational, and economic dimension to the summer holiday season through diverse programs targeting different segments of society.
It also stressed the need to grant special status to traditional industry and crafts by organizing salon events and dedicated exhibitions across coastal regions, involving artisans and associations from all regions of the country, especially southern regions, and providing suitable spaces for showcasing and promoting national handicrafts.
At the close of the meeting, Madam Minister provided an overall assessment of the preparations recorded across all coastal provinces, highlighting the significant efforts made by tourism and handicrafts directors, as well as handicrafts and industry chamber directors, and praising the level of commitment, mobilization, and field monitoring observed during this meeting.
She also highlighted the pivotal role played by these local frameworks in implementing the #SectorStrategy on the ground, and in coordinating with all stakeholders and partners to ensure the success of the summer holiday season 2026.
In this context, Madam Minister sent encouraging and motivational messages to all stakeholders, urging them to continue regular and sustained preparations, and to not spare any effort during the coming phase, in order to ensure the success of the season, improve service quality, and enhance reception conditions, thereby contributing to boosting Algeria's image as a preferred destination for tourism and leisure.
In conclusion, Madam Minister emphasized that she will continue with regular and on-the-ground monitoring of the summer holiday season, in coordination with all partners and stakeholders, stressing that the success of the season is measured by the level of satisfaction among tourists and visitors regarding the quality of services provided, the standard of reception, and the conditions of comfort, safety, and cleanliness across all national tourist destinations.
