On Wednesday evening, May 21, 2025, Minister of Tourism and Traditional Handicrafts, Madame Houria Meddahi, presided over the level of the Council at the Ministry, regarding the appointment of a ministerial committee entrusted with organizing the International Fair for Traditional Industry, themed "Year 2025," in its 26th edition, scheduled to take place from October 1 to 7, 2025, at the Exhibition Castle – The Maritime Pavilion, in Algiers.

On this occasion, the Minister emphasized that traditional handicrafts are not merely a manual activity but an art form telling the story of a nation, each piece bearing the depth of history, human creativity, and a spirit of authenticity. This underscores the need to support and accompany these craftspeople, as they contribute to preserving the cultural heritage, traditions, and customs that reflect our culture and authentic, deeply rooted identity in our ancient civilization.

This salon also presents a unique opportunity to promote Algeria's tourism potential and attractions, offering a renewed chance to boost and market Algerian handicrafts both nationally and internationally. It also serves as a special occasion to strengthen national identity by highlighting the traditional products crafted by Algerian artisans, products that embody the richness and depth of the national heritage and reflect intergenerational connections.

The Minister emphasized the importance of proper preparation to ensure the success of this important event through coordination among all relevant institutions involved, while providing all artisans with the necessary support to promote and market their traditional products, leveraging digitization and modern technologies in line with the state's policy in this regard.

This salon comes as part of our ministry's ongoing efforts to develop and elevate national handicrafts. The sector has ensured the preservation and protection of Algerian traditional handicrafts by securing their Algerian authenticity and quality certification, and by officially granting the "Algerian traditional handicrafts" certification to Algerian traditional handicraft products.

It aims to promote traditional handicrafts, which contribute to local economic development and highlight the role of artisans and artisans in advancing this sector, while working to improve it in accordance with tourist demands and new technological developments.

In order to enrich this salon from various angles, the Minister, in her capacity, directed the committee members to engage as many artisans as possible, representing all regions of the country, in order to highlight the cultural and historical diversity of Algeria, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Arts, and to actively involve youth from emerging institutions, while ensuring the participation of specialists in the field of handicrafts and material suppliers and equipment providers dedicated to artisans. A dedicated pavilion for traditional authentic cooking arts will also be established.

Ms. Minister expressed appreciation for the efforts of artisans and their contributions to preserving cultural heritage and traditions. She reaffirmed her commitment to providing support and assistance to all professionals and stakeholders across various traditional industries, and to organizing specialized training cycles to enhance their performance in promotion and marketing.

In conclusion, the Minister, lady, issued instructions for continuous coordination among all stakeholders to ensure the success of this edition, through designing a promotion and communication plan to enhance traditional handicrafts, which is one of the key pillars for advancing national tourism.
