Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts on the occasion of the celebration

On World Tourism Day

27 September 2024

Under the slogan "Tourism and Peace"

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

And the prayer and salutation upon our master Muhammad, the most noble of the messengers.

Algeria greets the world on the occasion of World Tourism Day, observed annually on September 27, which in 2024 has been designated by the United Nations World Tourism Organization with the theme "Tourism and Peace". This global day was established to highlight the importance of tourism in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and its impact on promoting social and cultural awareness.

We celebrate this global day, and as we approach the end of the summer holiday season in our country, which represents the peak period for coastal regions, we are preparing for the launch of a promising new tourism season: Saharan tourism, which highlights the vast Sahara of our country, endowed with unique natural, cultural, social, and historical attributes.

Algeria has experienced significant growth in tourism over recent years, under a climate of security and peace, thanks to high-level government support and encouragement for the tourism sector as a source of wealth and employment. This growth has been notable and steadily increasing, both in domestic tourism and international inbound tourism, which we are continuously working to strengthen and enhance.

You and I both understand the high value of tourism, the opportunities it offers for discovery and fostering relationships between communities and peoples through coexistence and peace, and its impact on achieving economic well-being for countries and societies.

The power of tourism lies in establishing peace among nations and communities through its high human values by promoting interaction and coexistence among people, and respecting each individual's appreciation of the other's culture.

And Algeria of the New Era, thanks to its attractive tourism potential, has placed the need to strongly boost the development of a leading tourism industry among its developmental priorities, contributing to the country's prosperity and enhancing social well-being for its citizens by integrating local destinations into Algeria's tourism offerings, aiming to achieve a prominent position within a comprehensive sustainable development framework, while preserving community values and culture and reinforcing social cohesion, security, and permanent peace.

Finally, I take this happy occasion to extend our warmest wishes to all tourism professionals, stakeholders, and actors on the occasion of their Global Day, and let us make it a turning point to elevate our sector to the ranks of thriving industries. May God grant us the blessing of happiness and peace, and let us together make tourism a cornerstone of advancement and peace.
