Algeria participates in the ninth edition of the ITB China International Tourism Fair 2026 in the city of Shanghai.
Within the framework of implementing the National Strategy aimed at promoting Algeria's tourism destinations on the international stage and diversifying tourist inflow sources, the tourism and traditional handicrafts sector, represented by the National Tourism Office (ONT), together with 14 national tourism partners, will participate in the ninth edition of the ITB China International Tourism Fair, scheduled to take place from May 26 to 28, 2026, in Shanghai, People's Republic of China.
This participation falls within the strategic orientation of the sector aimed at enhancing Algeria's positioning among high-potential tourism markets, particularly the Chinese tourism market, which ranks among the top source markets for tourists worldwide, given its growing dynamics and large scale.
The ITB China 2026 exhibition will serve as a leading international professional platform bringing together key players in the tourism and travel industry, offering a unique opportunity to showcase Algeria's tourism, cultural, and natural assets, strengthen ties with professionals and decision-makers, and build sustainable strategic partnerships that will enhance the attractiveness of Algeria's tourism destination and reinforce its international presence.
The 2025 edition of the fair was a remarkable success, with more than 700 exhibitors representing 85 countries and over 20,500 professional visitors, alongside approximately 38,800 business meetings. This reflects the event’s growing standing as one of the leading international gateways to the Chinese tourism market.
In this context, a national pavilion for Algeria will be designed according to a modern architectural vision inspired by the richness and diversity of Algeria's cultural and historical heritage, highlighting national identity and reflecting the authenticity of Algeria's tourism offering and its distinctiveness. The pavilion will also be equipped with various modern technological and communicative tools to ensure the implementation of an integrated promotional program throughout the event, through the presentation of a diverse range of media and interactive digital content that showcases Algeria's tourism, cultural, and natural assets.
Visitors to the Pavilion will be able to experience virtual three-dimensional tours of several Algerian tourist sites and landmarks, enabling the discovery of national tourism assets through a modern, interactive digital approach that reflects the progress being made in the tourism sector regarding digitization and smart promotion.
In the context of highlighting Algeria's national heritage linked to traditional crafts, a dedicated space for traditional ceramics will be established through the organization of live workshops that showcase the various stages of producing these authentic artisanal products, thereby reflecting the richness of Algeria's cultural heritage and contributing to enhancing the attractiveness of the national tourism destination for both visitors and international professionals.
This participation underscores the commitment of the tourism and handicrafts sector to continue its efforts aimed at enhancing Algeria's presence at major international tourism events and exhibitions, thereby opening new avenues for cooperation and partnerships, and supporting Algeria's positioning as a promising tourist destination that combines authenticity, diversity, and modernity.
